Wow! January to June mini catalog 2022 is amazing!

Hello ! I am glad to be back with you. I have been away for a little while for a very good reason! I have had the opportunity to keep my new grand-daughter who was born in August 2021, as well as my other grandchildren while their Moms and Dads are away at work. I am still doing that, but they are a little older now and "Nana" has gotten in the swing of our routine.

The January to June 2022 Mini catalog is a " must see" and experience first hand. I have been enjoying Stampin' Up! (SU!) for a very long time and I have to say this publication is one of their best! The products are fun to use and offer such a variety of possibilities. So many sets can be used together since they share similar themes; not only that, but they can also be used with items from the past ("retired" sets") as well as sets from the Annual Catalog (AC) 2021-2022. Your creativity can explode! There are photos of cards the designers from SU! have made that can be easily "copied and shared." I have often used their design as my starting point and once I start using the products, the ideas begin to flow.

In our world today, so many people need encouraging words from friends and loved ones. Many do not have a network of friends though; cards that you make can be shared with residents of nursing homes, our military, medical and rescue personnel, etc. Your card will become a conversation piece that could open a dialog between possible new friends or re-kindle relationships.

Look at this card! It looks complicated because of the details, but truly it was not hard to make . Give it a try! You can use rectangles, circles, or any open die cut for the window. I have used a clear window sheet behind the die cut but you could also use vellum, or even leave it open if your die cut supports that.

This fun card incorporates both the Greenhouse Garden bundles as well as the Home and Garden bundle. I also used the brick stamp from the Welcoming Window set (AC page 15). The Designer's Series Paper is my favorite of all time , Bloom Where You're Planted, from the Annual Catalog 21-22. The card is a stand up card, but will lay flat in a regular A2 envelope for mailing. I put some elements inside the greenhouse window, but you certainly can just use the DSP in the back as a decorative backdrop.

Steps:

Score the front panel and burnish score lines
Adhere adhesive sheet to DSP and die cut the greenhouse
Adhere front center panel DSP; die cut the window
Adhere window sheet to front inside
Adhere the greenhouse to the window sheet
Adhere the back DSP and then add the 1” pieces (if you want it different ) to the outer edges of the DSP
Adhere the 1/2 DSP to the 1/2 inch out edge sections on the column mechanism
On one side, adhere that section to the window sheet (this will be on the inside of the window) making a foldable square; repeat on the other side

9. Mark on the square the section that will need adhesive and set aside

10. Stamp and die cut the greenery and the tools; color with blends

11. Measure how far it is from the bottom of the front to the window bottom. This will help place the tools not he inside of the card. Configure the inner elements and adhere using glue/dimensionals

12. Apply adhesive to the marked areas on the column mechanism and the line up the other edge of the square to the side edge of the back base

13. Decorate the front of the card as desired.

14. Stamp the sentiment with Versamark; emboss with white embossing powder

15. Adhere with Dimensionals to the card front.

16 Stamp the white panel for the back of the card which will serve as the signature page.

That smells PEACHY!

Yes, I said SMELLS peachy! If you smell the peaches on this card, you can actually smell peaches! I have directions and photos of the process below.

Of course, I have used the Sweet as a Peach bundle from page 61 in the annual catalog, also with the beautiful 12x12 Designer's Series Paper (DSP) , You're a Peach . Being from the Peach State (Georgia) I was drawn to this set immediately when the catalog first came out.

While going on our annual peach picking at Gregg's Farm in Concord, GA this year, I thought about how wonderful a peach smells and how the colors are so beautifully blended and subtle. To me, the colors are more Pale Papaya and Flirty Flamingo rather than the deep orange of Calypso Coral. I longed to duplicate not only the colorway, but also the smell. How to accomplish that though??!! I'm all about using items I have already invested in, be it stamp sets, inks, paper, etc. I am also a soap maker, so I have many scents at my disposal. Why not put them to good use?! They are however oil based products, so I wasn't sure how I could make it work. The key is using hot water in the atomizer (I used an old Ranger one just in case) and shake the dickens out of it after you put in about a third of a dropper of fragrance oil. This creates an emulsion that sprays nicely and smells divine! Any fragrance oil can be used! Amazon has a plethora of scents available as well as your local drug store. I also used a little in an old water brush, but I discovered that wasn't really necessary. The Shimmer Basic White card stock was ideal to use. I tried it on regular Basic white and thick Basic white, but I found the Shimmer one gave a nicer finish. After I finished the card, I gave a couple of spritz to the back of the card so the recipient could get a whiff as soon as they opened the envelope.

Spray the emulsion on a block. You can use this as a "palette" to paint the peach die cut.

I added a couple of drops of Pale Papaya reinker to the block and mixed it all together go get a slightly richer color and to tone down the "pinky" Flirty Flamingo a little. You don't have to use any color if you don't need to.

I inked the stamp with Papaya then used a sponge dauber to dab on the Flamingo . While the ink is relatively still wet, begin moving the color around with the brush and the emulsion mixture.

After painting, the image will dry smooth and smell fabulous!

I chose three patterns from the DSP (previously cut to 4"x 5 1/4 " ) and die cut them using the basic borders dies on my Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine. I wanted the DSP to flow on the front of the card to symbolize the ground. the peach trees, and the sky. I adhered that panel to a piece of Balmy Blue measuring 4 1/8x 5 3/8"; those were adhered to a piece of thick basic white card stock cut to 11"x4 1/4", scored at 5 1/2 ".

The leaves are stamped with Pear Pizzazz and popped up with dimensionsals. I stamped an extra set of leaves and cut a small portion to tuck under the vellum label. The sentiment is stamped with Misty Moonlight and Calypso Coral to the right on one of the Tasteful Label die cuts and layered on a vellum cut out from the same set of dies. For a little added "supin' supin'" I used three basic rhinestones for BLING, as if the smell wasn't enough WOW factor!

For the inside of the card I used another piece of Balmy Blue (same dimensions) and a piece of Basic White 4"x 5 1/4". .I stamped another peach and stem and grounded the image using Gray Granite and water. The blue stripe is the "negative" image from the panel on the front of the card. The sentiment is from the Shaded Summer stamp set stamped in Misty Moonlight.

Pinwheel Tower Card and Bay Window fun fold Card

The envelopes cut into panels make beautiful Designer Series Paper (DSP). The August 2021 Paper Pumpkin Box, aka The Hope Box, has endless possibilities for alternative projects. The stamp set has precious sentiments and images suitable to inspire hope for many people, for many situations.

The center square of the tower can be made with either card stock or DSP.

The last panel can be left blank to write a personal message to the recipient, or it can be decorated as the other panels are.

I have seen the Bay Window fold many times but I have never tried to create one until now. I am kicking myself for waiting! It was simple and my mind is reeling with ideas. Stampin' Up! has one up on most paper crafting companies; the coordination of products, DSP, Colors, stamp sets, and dies cannot be match for its simplicity and creativity. The images are timeless while the colors create uplifting emotions and peaceful satisfaction.

Thanks to Rachel Tessman for the basic Pinwheel Tower instructions and to Kelly Acheson for the Bay Window instructions. There are many variations of both types of cards, but I really enjoy how these ladies explain folds so effortlessly.
